Re-paving of roads 6 and 8: how will the project be and which is its relation with Green Hydrogen?

The repaving of roads 6 and 8 is getting closer to become a reality, improving the connection between the Alto Valle and the Southern Region. The pavement works will extend for 185 kilometers, in a central road for the province from the social and economic point of view, which will also strengthen the possibilities of the Green Hydrogen production project.

Governor Arabela Carreras executed in Buenos Aires the agreement that allows these works to be carried out. "It is an opportunity for an even and balanced development for our province", said the Governor. She also mentioned that these works will promote the establishment of new private investments in the central area of the province.

Roads 6 and 8 connect with each other and generate a unique corridor that crosses the province from north to south. It is linked to two other corridors of bioceanic characteristics, such as national roads 22 and 23.

"We have been working on this project for more than four years, and fortunately it is coming to an end. This pillar of the provincial road network is over 40 years old, with different climatic conditions that have damaged it. Therefore, it is very important that it is going to be completely rebuilt", explained Raúl Grün, president of the Dirección de Vialidad Rionegrina.

He highlighted the strategic importance of the roads, not only for the Southern Region, but also "for the progress of the Green Hydrogen project, because it is a main road that connects with the rest of the regions of Río Negro".

The improvement of the road conditions will promote the Green Hydrogen production project, because it will generate a better interconnection between the central area of the plan - in Sierra Grande and part of the Southern Region - with the rest of the province, providing a faster and safer connection.

Two strategic roads that cross the province

Provincial Road 6 starts at the border with La Pampa, over the Casa de Piedra dam, and ends at the intersection with National Road 40 near El Bolsón. It is 672 kilometers long and it connects General Roca, El Cuy, Ingeniero Jacobacci, Ojos de Agua, Mamuel Choique, Río Chico and Ñorquinco.

Provincial Road 8 runs in the same direction. It starts at the intersection with Provincial Road 6 and ends, after 246 kilometers, at the border with Chubut, across Los Menucos.

What does the work include?

According to the planning carried out by Vialidad Rionegrina, the works will be developed in two stages, with a total investment of $3,400,095,141.

In the first stage, the work begins on Provincial Road 6 and its intersection with National Road 22, in the General Roca area. It includes the repaving of 57 km and in its development it crosses the area of Paso Córdoba, the south barda of the Río Negro and Cerrito La Cruz. This phase has an official budget of $1,589,737,795.45.

In order to protect the integrity of the works, it includes the construction of a weighing station for cargo control and vehicle counting with a dynamic weighing system (WIM type), metal bridge for reading equipment, camera systems, Internet connection, the necessary equipment for static weighing and a control station office.

The second section includes works on 128 km and has a budget of $1,810,357,345.58. Of this total, 97 km correspond to Provincial Road 6, from the intersection with Provincial Road 68, including Tricaco and El Cuy.

It is specifically in the last mentioned town where a channeled intersection with traffic dividing islands will be built and it will be complemented with a lighting system of 35 LED luminaires.

The remaining 31 km of work will be extended along Provincial Road 8, up to the area of La Esperanza at its intersection with Provincial Road 67 and closing the entire route.

In terms of safety, dangerous curves will be corrected, the normal functioning of drains and sewers will be ensured and the corresponding wire fences will be built along the entire length of the route, in addition to improving the intersections with secondary roads and complementing with the necessary road signs.
