At the Expo Dubai 2020, in the Argentina's pavilion the national authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in charge of the presentation, the Secretary of Planning, Daniel Sanguinetti, the Minister of Economy, Luis Vaisberg; and the Executive Manager of the Investment promotion Agency “Rio Negro Invierte”, Gonzalo Medina Cabrera, presented Bariloche's candidature to host the specialized world Expo 2027.
Under the concept of "A NEW BEGINNING", the Patagonian venue is competing with four other cities, with a strong focus on the combination of NATURE + TECHNOLOGY. Officials highlighted the importance of positioning Argentina at the forefront of the development of new energies such as green hydrogen.
In the Argentine stand, the main axes of the project were presented in a video, so, both visitors to the expo and members of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) were able to appreciate the first lines of the project.
It is worth mentioning that Bariloche's candidature has an executive board where the three jurisdictions, municipal, provincial and national, work together.
About Expo 2027
The BIE Expo 2027 or 2028 will be a recognized international Exposition, which will last 3 months and will have to develop a theme that addresses a sustainable development objective.
Five countries have applied to host the expo: the United States (in Minnesota), Thailand (in Phuket), Serbia (in Belgrade), Spain (in Malaga) and Argentina (in San Carlos de Bariloche).
The application closed on January 28, 2022.
From then on, the candidate countries will have until June 2022 to submit a detailed project dossier, with a view to the BIE organizing research missions that will analyze the feasibility of each candidate. A vote of all BIE member countries to choose the host country for this expo will be in June 2023.
